Master Program Statistics and Data Science

General Information

The Master's Program in Statistics and Data Science offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to strengthen and expand the basic understanding of the fundamental scientific concepts and methods of statistics. In addition to the core modules, students must specialize in one of five tracks. These tracks offer in-depth exploration and advanced coursework in specialized areas of statistics and data science: Machine Learning, Biostatistics, Social Statistics and Data Science, Econometrics and Methodology and Modeling. For more details regarding these specialized tracks, please see the documents provided in the study information section.

General communication platform for study matters

The Institute of Statistics operates a central Moodle page as a communication channel for students. Since a lot of information is bundled through this channel, all students are requested to enroll in this Moodle course. The key required for this is on the start page of the course.

International mobility

International mobility within the Erasmus programme and LMU specific programmes is sustainably supported. Typical mobility corridors are the second and the third semester. See https://www.statistik.uni-muenchen.de/studium/austausch/index.html for first information. It is highly recommended to contact the coordinators via erasmus@stat.uni-muenchen.de early on; the specific recommendations strongly depend on the chosen specialisation track and the specialisations of the different host institutions

German language courses for international students

As one of the largest language teaching and test centers for German as a foreign language in Munich, the Deutschkurse bei der Universität München e.V. offer preparatory and course-related German courses on behalf of the LMU, which are required for studying in Germany.

Intercultural counseling center

International students can find competent advice on everything to do with life and learning at a German university at the intercultural counseling center.

Student counseling for master students

For individual questions about the master programme please reach out to Lea Höhler. (master.consultancy@stat.uni-muenchen.de)
