The master's program not only offers statistics bachelor's graduates the opportunity to specialize in their field of interest, but also attracts many career changers from economics, social and natural sciences, as well as mathematics and computer science. Our study programs are thus characterized by a lively interaction of students with different professional backgrounds and specializations.

Master Program Statistics and Data Science

In the Master's program Statistics and Data Science, the basic scientific concepts and methods of statistics are deepened and expanded as a basis for responsible data analysis. Due to its strong research-oriented focus, the completed degree program enables students to further develop and redesign suitable statistical methods even in very complex application situations. During their studies, students further choose to deepen their understanding with respect to one of five focus areas: Machine Learning, Biostatistics, Social Science and Data Science, Econometrics or Methodology and Modeling. mehr


Master Program Data Science

The elite program Data Science is an interdisciplinary program and is carried out jointly by the Department of Statistics and the Institute for Informatics at LMU Munich. The program is part of and is supported by the Elite Network of Bavaria. The curriculum of the elite master program Data Science is a modularised study program. Students learn statistical and computational methods for collecting, managing, and analysing large and complex data sets and how to extract knowledge and information from these data sets. The program also comprises courses on data security, data confidentiality, and data ethics. In the practical modules students tackle real-world problems in cooperation with industrial partners. mehr
